French Sacrilege; Crime-Fighting Trad Priest; YouTuber Scorched & more | CATHOLIC NEWS ROUNDUP
What is going on everyone, welcome back to the vlog. Grab a coffee, get comfortable, because today I want to sit down and talk to you about a few stories that came across my feed this week that honestly left me speechless. I was watching a recent news roundup and it was just one wild headline after another. We are talking about everything from real-life action heroes in the streets of Detroit to exorcists getting fired over UFOs, and a massive YouTube controversy that has the entire internet completely divided. There is a lot to unpack here, and I really want to know what you guys think about all of this, so make sure you hit the comments as we go through it.
Alright, let’s get right into the first story, because this one sounds like it was ripped straight out of a comic book. I want you to picture this. You are in Detroit, Michigan. A stolen car comes flying down the street, loses control, and completely smashes into another vehicle. The guy who stole the car jumps out and starts sprinting away to escape the scene.
Now, standing nearby in a church parking lot is Father Jean Baptiste Commins. He is a traditional Catholic priest with the Institute of Christ the King, meaning he is wearing the full, floor-length black cassock. Someone yells, “Stop him!” and without even a second of hesitation, this priest just sprints after the suspect. He literally chases him down and tackles him to the pavement. The guy is fighting back, resisting, trying to scramble away, and the priest actually had to throw a few punches just to keep the guy pinned down, mainly because he had no idea if this fleeing suspect was armed with a gun or a knife.
He subdues the guy, waits for the Detroit police to show up, hands him over, and then—this is the craziest part—he immediately shifts right back into priest mode. He walks over to the woman whose car was hit, checks to make sure she is okay, and offers to pray with her and give her a blessing while the medics are doing their job. Later on, when someone asked him what he did after all that adrenaline wore off, he said he just went inside, did his evening prayers, and had dinner. Just another day in Detroit. Honestly, you have to respect that level of bravery. Most people would pull out their phones to record it, but this guy jumped right in. What would you guys do in that situation? Run toward the crash, or get out of the way?
Moving on to the second story, we are shifting from the streets of Detroit to Washington, D.C., and this one is bizarre. If you have been following the news lately, you know that UFOs and aliens are a huge topic right now. But apparently, talking about it can get you fired—even if you’ve been at your job for nearly two decades.
Monsignor Stephen Rosetti has been the official exorcist for the Washington D.C. Archdiocese for 19 years. That is a heavy, intense job. But recently, he posted a video where he made a very bold claim: he said that many, if not most, alien and UFO sightings are actually demonic manifestations. Well, Cardinal Robert McElroy saw this and immediately removed the Monsignor from his position. He claimed that linking UFOs to demons undermines the church’s teaching.
But this has sparked a huge backlash online. Canon lawyers and hundreds of commenters are stepping up to defend the exorcist, pointing out a pretty massive loophole: the church doesn’t actually have an official stance or teaching on aliens. So how can he be fired for violating a rule that doesn’t exist? It brings up this wild intersection between the supernatural, modern UFO culture, and how big institutions police what their people say on social media. After 19 years of dealing with the darkest stuff imaginable, to be let go over a UFO theory seems extreme. I’m really curious where you guys land on this. Do you think UFOs are just advanced tech, or is there a spiritual element to them like the exorcist claimed?
Now, I want to shift gears for the final story, and fair warning, this one is a lot heavier. It has completely taken over my timeline and the backlash is massive. Jesse Ridgeway, a very well-known YouTuber, recently went online to announce that he and his wife chose to end the life of their 21-month-old unborn child after they received a diagnosis of Down Syndrome.
He posted this very long, detailed explanation, basically saying he didn’t realize how rough the condition is for the child and the family, and framed it as a choice made to avoid suffering. But the internet did not see it that way at all. The comment sections turned into an absolute warzone. You had regular viewers, journalists, and even doctors weighing in. An Oxford physician responded directly, essentially accusing him of treating human life like it failed a quality control inspection. Others called the decision dark and tragic, pointing out how much joy people with Down Syndrome bring to their families and communities.
But here is what really pushed the outrage over the edge. People started digging into his past videos and pointed out that Ridgeway previously spent thousands and thousands of dollars on extensive medical treatments just to keep his disabled dog alive. And people are looking at that, comparing the two situations, and asking: how do you spend a fortune to save a pet with special needs, but not do the same for your own child? Despite the thousands of angry comments, Ridgeway is doubling down and refusing to back down from his stance, calling his critics depraved. It is a really dark look at how the internet reacts to intensely personal, moral decisions, and it really makes you think about where our culture places value.
It has been an incredibly heavy, weird week for news. We have vigilante priests, UFO controversies, and some really dark YouTube drama. I do these vlogs because I want to hear what you guys think about the state of the world right now. Let me know which of these three stories shocked you the most down in the comments. I read all of them, and I’ll be replying to as many as I can.
If you made it this far, thank you so much for watching. Don’t forget to hit that like button, subscribe to the channel if you haven’t yet, and I will see you guys in the next video.
